Science Riot in Quarantine: Stay Home, Stay Safe, Stay Funny!

ABOUT ABOUT

After surviving a crash-course in comedy, a cohort of local scientists will perform their late-night comedy talks live for a celebrity guest judge, and broadcast to all of you at home. It will be a brainy evening of laughter, learning, and libations from the comfort of your pandemic pajamas.

We've adapted our popular live showcase events for online audiences. In the style of the best of late-night television, our participants will be calling in from home, potentially their bathrooms, and almost certainly won't be wearing pants. This event is for adult audiences only, and while we can't actually enforce a two-drink minimum, we're happy to provide a permission slip for your loved ones and roommates.

Join our first-ever streaming event and the next chapter in Science Riot's unique brand of science communication training! You can RSVP with a donation of any amount, with all proceeds going towards our outreach training and programming that now takes place with our museums and partners still under lockdown. Science needs a voice now more than ever, and what better way than through humor?

Streaming events in Colorado are presented in partnership with the Space Foundation Headquarters and Discovery Center. They are currenly offering unique educational resources for teachers and families including downloadable videos and lesson plans, webinars and broadcasts, and virtual exhibits at https://www.discoverspace.org/

We have an incredible line up of real-life scientists and board-certified doctors who will all attempt to be both interesting and funny on purpose! Their expertise applies perfectly to our present challenges such as:

  • Sharing a bathroom--An archaeologist discusses the private habits of ancient Romans
  • Staying indoors--a zookeeper describes the lives of primates in zoo settings
  • Staying in shape--a physiologist studies the effects of exercise on bone density
  • Nutrition in quarantine--a veterinarian shares her insights on feeding the sedentary
  • Infectious diseases--a tuburculosis researcher has insights for today from the lessons of the past
  • Staying healthy--an internal medicine doctor reveals just what, exactly, is *wrong* with your body                               (hint: it's everything).

Joining us will be our celebrity guest who will be serving as a judge for the evening. He is a Denver-based professional comedian, practicing veterinarian, former roadie for the Rolling Stones, and star of eleven seasons on Animal Planet's Emergency Vets and E-Vet Interns - Dr. Kevin Fitzgerald.

A link to our private Youtube Live Event will be sent out with a final reminder at 7pmMT. There you can join the live chat with our hyperventilating scientists leading up to 8pmMT premier. This event will only be streamed live, so don't miss it!

Thank you to our local sponsor: Gnarly 101.3FM, playing the best of the 80's for Southern Colorado.
